‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: Casting a connection Jensen Ackles’ Dean
Just in case you like to see some blasts from the past play out on “Supernatural,” it looks based on some new reports that we are going to have one of those play out in an upcoming season 9 episode of the show.
According to a new report from SpoilerTV, producers for the CW hit are currently in the process of casting the character of Robin, a waitress in her thirties who bears a surprising connection to Jensen Ackles’ Dean. What is it? She remembers him from a teen romance that they had twenty years ago, and her being back in the picture now could have an interesting impact on him.
Does this mean that a full-fledged romantic arc is on the way for Dean? Not necessarily, and it’s much too early to tell based on just one casting snippet. Robin will first appear in the fifth episode of the season, which means that if nothing else, she will not be around for some of the growing pains that Misha Collins’ Castiel is going to be going through as an angel turned human on earth.
No matter what happens with Robin, let’s just hope that it fares a little bit better than what unfolded in regards to Sam and Amelia last season. This was clearly one of the most-polarizing storylines out there, especially since being with her in many ways represented Jared Padalecki’s character shifting away from Dean and his hunting ways. Since this is a show first and foremost about the Winchesters, nobody really wanted to see that.
What do you think about the idea for this storyline? You can read some more casting intel from “Supernatural” season 9 at the link here, and we will of course have more news as it becomes available.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! One thing is certainly true, the story of the show is about the Winchester brothers!

I don't mind the occasional one or two night stand for Sam and Dean, but long term romantic relationships with other people just don't make sense. (I would love to see both of them make friends with other hunters, tho,)
And you're right--this show IS first and foremost about Sam and Dean

Having an episode featuring someone who knew Dean as a teenager might be interesting to see how Dean has change, but romantic interestes with someone who's not part of the hunting world just never ever work. They will be part of a case, or end up as a victim.

I don't like any romantic arcs or anyone who gets between Sam and Dean. I want them to heal their relationship which we have been promised since S5 and only just started in 8.23. No Benny, no Cas, no Amelia, no Robin...I want Sam and Dean to be BROTHERS again and I want Bobby alive and well.

She's not there to die or be evil, is she? And can she have a life beyond being Dean's old love?
I wonder when this even was. I got the impression the family rarely stayed anywhere very long.

Sam's girlfriends, barring Amelia, are the ones who die or go evil. Dean has had Cassie and Amelia who are both alive and doing fine and totally not evil.
I do hope she has a life beyond ex-girlfriend. We need more characters like that.

Adolescent romance? That's ridiculous! Please, the writers did to Dean Winchester as a Casanova, a boy who only sleeps with a girl one night and the next morning ''goodbye''. And now, he has a teenage love everywhere? That is not credible, please SPN is a serious and adult series, not about old teenage romances. It's not credible that they meet again after 20 years. She reminds Dean? I understand that the teen romance is not easy to forget, but it's crazy, an idea of writers that they don't even know what to write more!! Dean has always been a womanizer and now he fell in love with a lot of girls, please, he seems more romantic than Sam! And it seems too coincidental that all the girls who slept with him appear in the series, Cassie, Lisa... That is not credible either. I think it's silly to spend an episode inventing characters that bored the fans and it makes no sense. I prefer Dean and Jo, but I don't say this for the couple, I say this as a fan who wants to see things interesting for the possible ultimate or penultimate season of the series. I hope they resurrect the SPN family and forget about silly and bored teenagers romances in a series of this caliber.
DEAN AND JO FOREVER & SAM AND JESS FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

Well I see by the comments that the fans are already frothing at the mouth at the mention one of Dean's old romance saying it's in character. Well I'm going to remind you of ' After School Special' where he had a girl friend as well as the mention of Rhonda Hurley when they were both 18. Those are adolescent romances and this is in keeping with Dean's character. Dean went to Lisa because he made a promise to Sam and he was a wreck after all he'd been through. In past episodes he did wonder what normal life would be like. But that is over. We saw Dean realize his true purpose in life and no it's not rocking the white picket fence.

While everyone else is complaining about Dean's former flame, I'm cheering that we got a semi spoiler for Dean. Give me more Dean spoilers.
ETA: This is a spoiler snippet, which means we have no idea what the overall episode is about. I'm going to wait for the synopsis before I decide if this episode sounds interesting or not.

Well I'm not gonna cheer about a Dean spoiler until we get a serious one that implies a PRESENT story/myth arc. Also this show has gone from horror/sci fi to drama. Yeah, that's what it's labeled as in my country, "thriller drama". I just wish they would at least a few really dark episodes with landscapes shots of the impala, just where the boys hunt a freaking wendigo or something. That'd be cool.

I actually think that if Dean had a stable love interest, a recurring character who would help him be happy, yet not become his entire life, he would have more of a chance to move into other storylines beyond how broken and alone he is.
The problem is that they never do this with Dean or Sam. That's why I dread spoilers like this. She is likely to be there just so that Dean might have a roll in the hay, then make a sad face or cry a tear over the misery of his life and the boulevard of broken dreams.
I don't have a problem believing he had a great love in high school, but the idea has been done several times now and it just sounds like something out of a Mary Sue fic.
I really hope this will play better than it reads. If she's just there for sex, or to die, or to be evil, it's pointless.

browniegirl27 Caroline Veronica • 10 hours ago −
Here's the thing. I've pretty much given up hope that we'll get a spoiler that ties Dean to the present story/myth arc. I don't know what this episode is about, but I'm going to guess that it has nothing to do with the myth arc. I'm just hoping the episode will give us some insight into Dean's psyche for a change. Maybe this episode will be the one where Sam and the audience is supposed to see a side to Dean we've never seen before.
And yes, I'm all for Supernatural having darker episodes. It's an aspect of the show that I truly miss. Look, I have a lot of complaints about this show right now, but I just don't feel like discussing those today.
