PAGEs 126-135 What's Your Fab 4 IQ?
PAGE 126: False. The human pinwheel (1) decorated the set while the band taped concert footage for their first film, ''A Hard Day's Night.'' Our human pinwheel is holding an apple -- a reference to the Beatles' recording company. PAGE 127: This page was inspired by a 1963 Beatles poster (8) for a concert in Southport, England, at the Odeon Cinema. Other acts included Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy Baxter and the Sons of the Piltdown Men. PAGE 128: Paul reportedly wrote ''Martha My Dear'' for his sheepdog, Martha (4). PAGE 129: The Beatles recorded ''All You Need Is Love'' live on a BBC telecast beamed around the world in June 1967. They wore the placards (6) as part of the festivities. It was Mick Jagger who lit up, and was busted the very next day. PAGE 130: C. To promote peace, John and Yoko spent seven days in bed at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel, only getting up to use the bathroom (3). PAGE 131: The original shot for the Beatles' ''Yesterday And Today'' (2) was Lennon's idea: the Beatles as butchers holding severed dolls' heads and bloody meat. The highly controversial image was later replaced by an innocuous portrait of the foursome in a hotel room. PAGE 132: This photo (7) was taken in 1964 on the set of ''A Hard Day's Night,'' directed by Richard Lester. PAGE 134: This shot (5) appeared on the back cover of the ''Penny Lane'' single. Many interpreted the new long hair to mean that the Beatles were breaking up.
PAGES 138-139 THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES
There are eight differences: Nose piercing is gone. The twill on the bustier has changed direction. The bustier has no center seam. There's only one bug on the top of the skirt; two bugs on the bottom. The Chanel ring now has two circles instead of signature ''C''s. Nails are darker. Diamond ring has appeared on her left thumb.
PAGES 190-191 GRID LOCK
Two squares in the second column from left, second and third rows from the bottom, are reversed. The flowers in the bouquet by Robert Isabell are antique garden roses, Calla lilies, freesia, gardenias, lily of the valley, poppies, stephanotis and tulips.

PAGES 142-149 FLIP BOOK
9. The father of motion photography is Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904), who used super shutter speed to study the locomotion of animals and humans (particularly naked ones doing back flips). Muybridge's life work began over a bet: did a horse's feet all leave the ground during a trot? The resulting photo showed that they did.
PAGES 174-175 TYRANNY OF THE WEEK
10. The pictures were taken within 40 minutes; the last at 8:05. In G, the clock reads 7:30, indicating that at least one picture was taken before G. Because of the identical arrangement of clothes on the chair and screen, the only picture that could precede G is E, establishing E as No. 1 and G as No. 2. ''These are a bit snug'' is consistent with the action in H; therefore H is No. 3. B is No. 4, because she's wearing the same outfit as in the previous photo. She then reaches for the ''elegant'' dress -- it's next, because it's missing from the rest of the photos. Because in F the clock reads 7:40, one can deduce that it is clearly not last. The placement of the jacket in the remaining pictures establishes the last three as No. 6 (C), No. 7 (A) and No. 8 (D).

PAGES 176-181 LOCATION? LOCATION? LOCATION?
PAGES 176-177: You're at 56th and Fifth. To the left is Bergdorf Goodman. On the right, the Tiffany flags. And oh, yes, Donald Trump. He doesn't fall far from his treehouse. PAGE 178: You're at the corner of Essex and Delancey. Note part of the ''G'' in the Gem Gem Super Value Store sign and the OTB sign in the background, a touch to the right of the Twin Towers. PAGE 179: Bleecker and Christopher Streets. Juice fans will recognize Serafina Cafe's colorful sign and Christopher's Luncheonette across the street. PAGE 180: Broadway and 45th. The Fleet Bank is lit up like a greasy beacon in the sky, and above the tourists, is the well-lighted marquis for ''Annie Get Your Gun'' at the Marquis Theater. However, the giveaway that you're in Times Square is the blur of lights and motion, day and night. PAGE 181: Wall and Hanover Streets. Students of architecture will recognize the columns on the building at 14-16 Wall Street, which houses Bankers Trust and the Skyscraper Museum (12)athe well-suited man in our shoot might be on his way from Federal Hall, across the street.
PAGES 148-149 MAKING THE CUT
13. The actresses Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow may be everybody's favorite blondes, but they are as different as a Taurus (Cate) and a Libra (Gwyneth). Cate decided to wear a slinky Galliano number to the Oscars, and Gwyneth chose an innocent-looking Ralph Lauren gown. Cate is happily married to the Australian screenwriter and editor Andrew Upton, while everybody knows about Gwyneth's serial heartaches. Cate graduated from the University of Melbourne, while Gwyneth dropped out of the University of California at Santa Barbara. Cate has an older brother, and Gwyneth, a younger. Cate won the Golden Globe; Gwyneth, the Oscar. 14. In the world of paper dolls, Tom Tierney is the undisputed king. He has more than 200 books in print, the latest on Henry VIII and his six wives. The multitalented Tierney is also a singer, and he once performed with Joan Rivers, who now uses Tierney's dolls as part of the background for ''Fashion Review,'' on the E! channel.
PAGES 182-189 CLUE
The murder is solved by process of elimination. Colonel Mustard and Professor Plum must have finished high school; the killer has no degree. Everyone was photographed with the knife and the candlestick, so those weren't the weapons. Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard and Mr. Green were all photographed with the wrench. Mrs. White was photographed with the poison -- and she can dance. Mrs. Peacock is exonerated by the killer. The weapons not referred to: ''Revolver'' (the Beatles album), Poison (Christian Dior's perfume) and ''Rope'' (the Hitchcock movie). Miss Scarlet is licking the turkey-smeared knife, and the killer is a vegetarian. So that leaves only Mr. Green (16), another talented Mr. Ripley with a Boddy obsession. A former male model, with a fraternal twin sister, he played out the twist on ''Cousin, Cousine'' by falling in love with a man and killing him with a lead pipe.
PAGES 192-193 TIMES FOLD-IN
If you folded A to B properly, you're left with members of the casts of ''Sunset Beach,'' ''Days of Our Lives'' and ''Passions'' doing what soap opera stars do best -- stabbing each other in the back (17). Only intended as a onetime thing, the Mad Fold-In was so well received that Al Jaffee and the rest of the Mad staff made it a regular feature. That was 30 years ago. Inspired by Playboy's foxy foldouts and by Life's panoramic foldout photos, Jaffee found the form particularly conducive to his own brand of cultural satire.
