Deidre: Jensen played a practical joke on me during our first scene. He melted my heart with his courage, humor, and audacity. I have loved him since that moment.

Deidre Hall
May 27, 1998
ChatYahoo_Lisa: hi
Deidre: Good evening. Nice to be able to visit with you tonight. I hope I'll be seeing some of you on Saturday at my West Coast breakfast.
Deidre: Check SoapCity or www.marlena.com for details! if you can't make it to breakfast, feel free to ask your qeustions now!
Hamgal asks: Deidra..admire you greatly as a woman and actress..will your twin sister ever rejoin you again on Days?
Deidre: My twin sister, Andrea Gengler, is happily pursuing her career teaching special education in Virginia Beach. Although we had a wonderful time together (and she was able to pay off her college loan), it's unlikely that she'll be returning to television.
Mcbeal_98 asks: I am a huge Days fan. Marlena is my favorit character you are my favorit actress. I am 12 years old right now and when I grow up I want to be on Days. Can you give me any words of advice. Deidre: Lie about your age and try to look old enough to be my son Eric's girlfriend! It's the yummiest part in town.
DeidreHallRocks asks: Good Afternnon Deidre. I was wondering has Stefano finially given up on his "Queen of the Night" to let John and Marlena be happy together for once?
Deidre: Gracious, i hope so! But who knows? Who knows what dangers lurk in Stefano's game plan?
Maggie_teach asks: Where do you see your character going in the near future?
Deidre: I know that you've seen the episodes in which John and Marlena reunite (I'm hoping you enjoyed them as much as I did). I've had three weeks off and I can't even guess what they're planning next! Did you watch the Emmys? By the way, if you're coming to my luncheon, let me know before you ask the question.
Slickette_98 asks: Deidre, I think you're an awesome actress. Which actors/actresses do you enjoy working with the best?
Deidre: I always love working with Jamie Linbauer. She always makes me cry. And Suzanne Rogers, my longtime pal, who will be at my breakfast on Saturday. Of the men, I'm the luckiest girl in daytime. I work with my two favorite men, Drake and Jensen.
Sjstanley asks: Deidre, will you sell jewelery on QVC again?
Yahoo_guest1: No. However, I have a rather unique gift item available for the holidays.
Deidre: It is a tree ornament on which I have recorded "Twas the Night Before Christmas." It is not the usual tinny sound associated with this sort of ornament, and I'm very proud of it, and I can tell you how to order one if you like.
Emat78 asks: do you miss working with wayne?
Deidre: I miss working with Wayne terribly. He was and is my close pal, but also a powerful ally on stage. Keeping us all calm and on our best behavior.
Aaron_Tommy asks: Did Deidre do the voice of Satan of was it like machanically done?
Deidre: It was my voice, mechanically altered live at the time. You may have noticed that no one spoke immediately before me or immediately after me.
Sue_55_98 asks: Do you plan on doing any made for tv movies? Perhaps an Electra Woman remake?
Deidre: Not a chance. I'm enjoying this time with my children and have nothing else planned for at least two years.
Locutus0 asks: Did you think Eileen Davidson was robbed at the Emmy's? She should have taken home that statue
Deidre: I've always thought Eileen's work was extraordinary. It's even better when you're up close.
Deidre: I was sad and disappointed at her loss, but know that her value is significant in the industry, and she will have many more shots at accepting statuettes.
Bubba1955_98 asks: How goes the world of parenting (I am also an adoptive parent)?
Deidre: If you're a parent, you already know. It's the most wonderful present you're ever given, and you may already suspect it flies by way too fast.
Mcaar asks: Do you ever get as bothered by the fact that the Salem parents don't seem to spend much time or much hands on parenting with their little ones, as some of us fans do?
Deidre: I've always known how difficult it is to convey an intimacy with children who are only actors. By nature, it goes against their instinct. Which makes it exceedling difficult to do things with children that hit the mark for which they were intended.
Dragontooth21 asks: How do you and Ali Sweeny get along? Do you wish Marlena and Sami would reconcile? At least a little?
Deidre: I adore working with Alison. She is spunky and courageous and plays Sami with her whole heart. I love being in her face for any occasion, whether it be combative or parental.
Kyle_Scofield asks: what was your favourite storyline since you joined in 1976 was it? extraordinary--and how do you manage to learn lines like that almost every day-isn't it exhausting?
Deidre: There were two storylines that kept me most on my toes. One was the Samantha storyline, because I was working with my twin sister, who, although she had very good instincts, was untrained, and I felt responsible to make her guest appearance as easy and entertaining as possible.
Deidre: The other storyline was the Satan story, which was thrilling and challenging to do as it was to watch.
Deidre: I've been playing Marlena for so many years (22). Her dialogue is like my own. I learn it in the makeup chair first thing in the morning and forget it when they call 'cut'.
Locutus0 asks: Did Marlena just throw away that penicillin laced candy without ever taking a bite herself?
Deidre: Truthfully, I was never quite sure what the writers intended. I was also unclear whether my daughter ate the candy and got sick, or got the pills and got sick.
Carrie1226 asks: I would love to buy the 'Marlena' charm bracelet from your jewelry line. Where can I get one?
Deidre: You're sweet to ask. I'm afraid it was a limited offer, and they went very quickly.
Cindylou_07 asks: How do you explain the chemistry between you and Drake Hogestyn? You have always had such great chemistry, even back in 1986.
Deidre: Part of what makes it easy to work with Drake is loving and respecting him as an actor and a human being. I'm sure a lot of that comes across on camera. And the rest is that intangible thing we chalk up to chemistry. I'm glad you like it!
FiestyAngel asks: I think it is so refreshing to see a prominant woman in our society today, take such an active intrest in her children. I feel you are a great role model to many of us mothers.
Deidre: I'm glad to hear you also take it so seriously. We all learn from each other, from moment to moment, the best way to be a parent.
Deidre: I'm grateful to everyone who walked in my shoes before I did for their great advice and enormous insight and willingness to share the secrets of motherhood.
DeeDayz asks: Deidre- Are you happy with the recent reconciliation between John and Marlena? You are my favorite actress by the way!
Deidre: It's always a pleasure to play scenes that you know give the fans what they've been waiting so long to see. I wish for our sake and for yours there had been more scenes that created the reunion and that they had lasted longer than rushing back to Salem to attend to Laura.
ReynaAzteca asks: What has been the hardest scene to do Deidre: Two spring to mind.
Deidre: The most recent was Kristin's fantasy of my funeral. We were all tense and unhappy about Eileen's final day at work, and during a taping mishap the casket lid smashed down on my head.
Deidre: It was frightening and upsetting and even more so because of our state of mind.
Deidre: The other moment was when Stefano held me prisoner in the cage and I wrote the letter to Belle saying goodbye. The scripted dialogue was very brief, and my director said, "Ad lib a longer letter." And I found during taping I was so overcome I was nearly unable to finish the scene. A third moment occurs to me now:
Deidre: The love scene on the airplane with John three years ago. We had done the scene four or five times. We were drained and emotional when Tom Langan came on stage and told us to quit fooling around, stop playing it safe, and just do it. The next take that we did, I was so overcome with emotion I couldn't stop weeping when they called "cut".
Deidre: If you call before noon tomorrow, you can make your reservation at 562-945-4949. My breakfast preceeds the Days of our Lives luncheon at the Universal Hilton, and is held at 7am.
Deidre: To get "Twas the Night Before Christmas" ornament, send $18.95 plus $4.95 shipping and handling to PO Box 6026-109, Sherman Oaks CA 91413. If you're on the East Coast, I'm having my annual luncheon in South Carolina July 5. For information, contact the web site (www.marlena.com).
Deidre: We have video montages of Marlena's year in review, we have an outtake reel, and the ladies' favorite part--as a rule, my wardrobe master allowing me to give away a number of items from Marlena's closet. And, of course, it's a question and answer free-for-all. It goes from 7 until 11. And other stars drop by near the end.
PinkTrackStar asks: Dee,first I'm excited about going to the breakfast! Secondly,I heard that you had written a book, and that you were looking for someone to publish it.Is this true? If not,you should write one.
Deidre: How do these rumors start? I have enough trouble writing in my children's diaries. A book would be a Hurculean undertaking! But you're kind to encourage me.
DeidreHallRocks asks: Ouch sorry Dee about that casket smashing on your head! Will John and Marlena ever get married, not like you'll actually tell me this but is this wedding Corday is teasing us about during the summer's your's and Johns?
Deidre: Thank you, Eileen, for writing in! The writers are smart enough never to confide in me, especially before my breakfast, because they know I never try to keep a secret!
Deidre: But nobody has asked me what a woman might wear to remarry her husband yet again. But the summer's young!
Wishgirl99 asks: do u watch yourself on tv every day Deidre: The only time I tape a scene would be during the filming on stage, and I do it occasionally for very important scenes, transitional scenes, or to check up on new makeup or a new hairdo.
Raisin__1 asks: Does Marlena still love Roman? Will anything develop between them?
Deidre: I think Marlena has said repeatedly that Roman will always be a part of her life and have a special place in her heart (I guess I don't always forget the dialogue!), but I don't forsee any such reunion in the future.
GreaseGrl asks: Diedre, did you sign back on with NBC for two more years?
Deidre: Yes.
Dragontooth21 asks: What was the funniest thing that's happend on the set?
Deidre: My work day is filled with funny and spontaneous moments with very creative people, and it would be hard to pinpoint one moment that stands out from the rest. I know we laugh hardly every day. It's the best part of the creative process for me.
Kyle_Scofield asks: deidre--is there anything you would like to do with marlena? could you go to jim reilly or sally sussman morina and talk about where you think your own character should go?
Deidre: I've always found the writers of "Days" to be not only receptive but highly creative, and came to realize during the Jim Reilly era, he was so far ahead of anything I could create that I learned to keep my mouth shut.
Jensen_fan asks: Jensen Ackles plays your son on the show, are you two close off the set?
Deidre: Jensen played a practical joke on me during our first scene. He melted my heart with his courage, humor, and audacity. I have loved him since that moment.
Locutus0 asks: Any chance of Don Craig returning to the show?
Deidre: It's unlikely, and I've heard no rumblings about it.
Dragontooth21 asks: In my 5yrs of continual watching, Marlena has mentioned he first born child once- the one that died of SIDS and that was recently. Do you think this would be a great storyline for maybe Sami or Carrie one day?
Deidre: The crib death story was highly traumatic for many, many viewers. I am still asked about it. I don't know how the writers feel about such a powerfully personal story.
Kuch2_1998 asks: Deidre can you tell me if you were really sick on the day you taped the April 14th show. I felt so sorry for you because it sounded like it was hard to get your lines out.
Deidre: I don't memorize the shows by the air dates, but we all work in good and ill health, and I've had my share!
Deidre: I've worked with a high fever, I've worked with laryngitis, I've worked with colds, so it's very likely that you caught me during one of those moments.
Dee21_98 asks: How did you like doing your "first date" with the Grease theme, did you have as much fun as you seemed to on screen??
Deidre: "Camp" has never been my long suit. Drake was far more at ease than I, and I'm sure it showed. I spent most of my rehearsal time trying to blow a bubble. But I'm glad it was fun for you to watch.
Carrie1226 asks: Can we expect to see a significant decrease in airtime for you when your new contract starts this August?
Deidre: It's hard to know what the writers have in mind.
FiestyAngel asks: Do you allow your young children to watch you on TV?
Deidre: My children are not allowed to watch television in the daytime, and only watch selected shows in the evenings. They have caught me on tape or seen me on days they visit me at work, enough to understand what Mommy does.
Deidre: The other day, I was driving my son to school and talking to my girlfriend about an upcoming scene when Belle takes the poison. After our conversation, our son asked me, "Gee, Mom, I didn't know you had a little girl!" I told him it was my pretend daughter and she was taking some pretend medicine and getting sick. He said, "Was she really sick, or just pretending?" I said, "Just pretending, so I took her to the hospital." he said, "Did you drive a real car or a pretend car?" I said, "A real car to a pretend hospital." he said, "Oh, I know that one. It's where the road moves behind you, but you sit still." I knew then that he had grasped what I do for a living.
Dragontooth21 asks: Do you ever think that the time frame of the show is ridiculous like the viewers? I mean, one minute you're in Salem, go to commercial break while Bo and Hope are walking to the peir, and you and John arrive in New Orleans before Bo and Hope get to the...
Deidre: Oh, is that right? That's the writers' perrogative. What makes me wild is coming to work twelve days in a row and putting on the same dress.
Dei_mar asks: do you get to pick out what you want to wear on the show or does some one tell what to wear Deidre: Richard Bloore, who designed and made my gown for the Emmys (did you see it? did you like it? write him and tell him so at NBC!) brings in a number of selections for any given scene. I'm allowed to choose from those outfits.
DeeDayz asks: Dee - Is the Phoenix tattoo on Drake's shoulder real, or do they only put it on him when he goes shirtless - which should happen more often in my opinion!
Deidre: No, it's a tattoo stamp they apply every time he has to get undressed.
Missy987 asks: deidre........what advice would you give to someone who wants to become a soap actress in today's society
Deidre: Acting is one of the toughest fields in which to become successful. Two percent of the Screen Actors Guild makes over $2000 a year. Get the idea? I would always suggest a) want it more than anything in the world, and b) have a fallback position.
Ladyjazz1 asks: Are you going to be involved heavily with the Maison Blanche storyline??
Deidre: I must assume since that includes John searching for his past, I will be some part of that.
DANACAROLINE asks: You're my favorite actress and the 'Queen of Daytime' in my book! What's your secret to staying in such great shape? Do you workout a lot...or constantly watch what you eat? Whatever you do-- as Barbra Streisand said, "You look marvelous, darling!" ...
Deidre: You're very kind! I have two small boys. I spent the entire morning dragging a wheelbarrow full of sand and a three-year-old boy around the backyard. My upper-body workout was complete.
Dragontooth21 asks: Do you ever visit websites or chat rooms to see what the fans think about the show? If not, I think you should. It would be fun and very inlightening.
Deidre: People are always sending me pages from the Web, but I've never had time to log on myself.
DeidreHallRocks asks: I just want to say that you looked lovely at the Emmy's. You were so cute! Why did the Grease date get snubbed by Soap Magazines? I thought it was SO cute. What would you do if one of your chilfren said to you that they wanted to act would you be for...
Deidre: I didn't know we got snubbed by the magazines! But gee, thanks for letting me know!
Deidre: I realized very early that children come to us with their own agendas, and I hope I would try to support any dreams my children conceive. But it would give me great concern to have a child aspire to show business.
Luv661998 asks: Are the rumoors that maybe something happened between John and Hope true? And have the writers ever thought about writing a storyline for you about what happened during Marlena's comatose years? Deidre: I haven't heard rumors about either storyline.
Deidre: Once again, if you're able to make it to my breakfast on Saturday morning, please jot down the number: 562-945-4949.
Deidre: Call before noon tomorrow. For more information, visit my web site or write the fan club address: PO Box 6026-109, sherman Oaks CA 91413.
Deidre: I'm always amazed how many women adore the character of Stefano, and even more amazed that someone so rich and powerful doeesn't have bigger fish to fry than the Bradys in Salem. But as long as it entertains you, we'll just keep on doing it.
MicheleN6379 asks: Do you find it hard juggling your job and home life? I admire you a lot. You are such a beautiful person.
Deidre: Any juggling is hard when you're a parent, and I have solved it by making sure I have nothing in my life but my work and my family. When they are both in school, I can catch up on my charity work, my friendships, and other things that have taken a back seat to holding my children.
Deidre: It's been a great pleasure and very interesting to spend this hour with so many of you. You're interesting, tuned in, and curious, and that's always satisfying. Thank you for watching, thank you for caring, and stay tuned!
Yahoomc: Thanks Dedire..all Days fans don't miss Saturday's Days Fan Fest with all your favorites 1:30pm pst Check out Soap City and Yahoo!Chat for Days Details! goodnight
