I love this website and carefully read it before I make any plans. Therefore, I knew
1) the Loveless Cafe sounded good and would be worth a visit and
2) since my husband is diabetic, we couldn't (and wouldn't) put up with a long wait.
Therefore, because of your reviews, we timed our visit for 3;30 p.m. on a weekday.
Voila! No wait whatsoever. We both had the chicken fried steak. I had the fruit cup (very good) and the red-skinned potato salad,, and he had the marinated cucumbers and mashed potatoes. The only choice I would change would be the potato salad--wish I had ordered something else, but it was ok. The biscuits were wonderful (I could have eaten a plateful because we were starving). I could compare them to the ones served at Cedar Grove Mansion B&B in Vicksburg. The jams were great as well. As much as we wanted to order dessert, we didn't. We will go back again gladly if we are in the area, but again we will choose an "off" time.

“Worth the Drive”

Visiting Nashville, drove @ 20 minutes for the best country food I've ever had. Recommend the Breakfast Sampler platter but the Fried Chicken looked so good - we are going back before returning to North Carolina.

“Really Like This Restaurant”

Second time we ate here visiting Nashville. Met some family members in Nashville for a fun filled week. Took them here for breakfast but some of us had lunch. I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was delicious. My son-in-law ordered the meatloaf and he liked it a lot. Husband and daughter had omelets and liked them. Kids ate everything. Waiter was wonderful with all of us. Good food. Went on a weekday and it wasn't too crowded. Had to wait only about 20 minutes. I would go back again if we ever go to Nashville in the future.

The Loveless Cafe, having attained the number two best restaurant in Nashville, had to be tried. The restaurant is located at the northern end of the Natchez Trace Pkwy and consist of 1920s appearing motel with several new additions. The first thing you notice when you arive for lunch is the crowd, and that they are people waiting for a table everywhere. We waited for an hour and a half and sat in one of the newer additions of the dining hall. The service was great and attentive. Our young waitress had been well schooled and trained in Southernisms, I am from the South and the Yalls and Honeys were even a little too thick for me. The vegatables were average and the barbeque was good. The best part of lunch was the peanut butter pie, delicious. It was a nice drive, long wait, ok food, and I can check it off the list.

If you are in the Nashville area, you MUST stop by the Loveless Cafe! If you don't already know, they have the BEST biscuits (and sorghum) to be found anywhere. They are truly addictive. And the breakfast specials such as country ham with red eye gravy (or the sampler plate) are not only delicious, but a true representation of southern cooking at its best. The converted motel also features a series of small shops (in what used to be the guest rooms) to browse through while you wait (yes, this place is so good that there are often lines to get in). The entire experience should be required for anyone traveling to Nashville.

We tried to make reservations at the Loveless Cafe for 19 employees two weeks before a company event. They told us they did not take reservations and we would just have to call ahead a hour before coming to the restaurant and they could accommodate us. We called a week before the event to confirm this information and they told us the same thing. So we called an hour ahead the day we were to go to the restaurant and they told us they had other large groups that "had made reservations", so we would have to wait an hour. We decided to go anyway because it would be difficult to find another restaurant on a Friday night. After an hour, we asked how much longer? They kept saying "just a few more minutes". That went on another hour even though we offered to break our group up into smaller groups. Finally it was 9pm and we just decided to leave and try and find another restaurant, in which we were successful. (Thank you Boxwood Bistro in Franklin, Tn). If the kitchen of this restaurant is run like the front of the house, I would be leery eating the food. Plus the menu is full of artery clogging fried foods.

Our favorite place to eat our entire trip to Nashville was the Loveless Cafe. Just good down home cooking. Biscuits are out of this world as well as the jams. Arrived about 1PM and had nearly an hour wait for a table but well worth the wait. Make sure you visit when in Nashville.

We absolutely loved this place! We rode the General Jackson which was $80+ per person and was disappointed with the food. The next evening, we went here. I told my husband that if we had eat here first, we would have NEVER rode the General Jackson.

It's ALL good!
Call ahead on Sunday and get your name put on the list. because they are busy. The gift shop sells fantastic preserves ( especially blackberry!)
