Students should observe modesty and neatness in clothing and personal appearance. A student’s dress should fall within the following confines:
1. All clothing should be free of inappropriate or disruptive slogans, phrases, pictures or signs, tobacco or alcohol advertising, sexual or drug-related references. 2. Ragged, distressed, or intentionally cut/torn clothing is not appropriate. See-through clothing is not acceptable. 3. No cut-offs, running shorts, boxer-style shorts or those made of spandex are allowed. Shorts/skirts must be longer than fingertip length when the student’s arms are relaxed and fingers fully extended at his/her side. Dresses will meet the same length requirement as short/skirts. The top of a slit in a dress or skirt must meet the fingertip requirements for short/skirts. 4. Sagging pants or pants oversized at the waist cannot be worn to school. Pants must fit at the waist and be belted, if necessary. Distressed jeans are not allowed. Pajama style pants or writing across the seat of the pants are not allowed. Leggings may not take the place of pants. 5. Tank, halter or tube tops, T-backed or spaghetti-strapped attire and shirts with open sides are not allowed. Tops and dresses cut low in front or back are not allowed. Backless sundresses or any shirts, blouses or dresses that allow midriff exposure are inappropriate. 6. Boys are not allowed to wear sleeveless shirts. Sleeveless shirts for girls must have material on the shoulder that extends from the collar bone to the shoulder. 7. Tall T’s and oversized jerseys are not allowed. Boy’s shirts must be tucked in. Girls wearing long shirts will also be required to tuck them in. 8. Hats, sweatbands, other head gear, sunglasses and gloves must not be worn in the building. Grooming utensils must not be worn in hair. Chains and spiked accessories are not allowed on campus. 9. No clothing associated with gang affiliation will be allowed on campus. This includes bandanas, t-shirts and towels carried/thrown over the shoulder, hanging out of pockets, or carried by the students. Gang related items will be confiscated and not returned. 10. Any clothing that reveals undergarments whether a student is seated or standing is inappropriate and should not be worn to school. 11. Shoes or sandals should be worn at all times. House slippers are not allowed. 12. Inappropriate clothing may not be concealed by jackets, coats, sweaters, hoodies, or other garments. 13. Facial piercings cannot be a distraction to student or a disturbance to the school environment.
All building administrative decisions regarding student dress are final. The student who does not comply with this dress code will receive a warning on the first violation, issued a detention or lunch detentions on the second violations, and placed in ISS for all subsequent violations. Additionally, students will be required to change into appropriate clothing if they remain on campus. Students leaving campus to change clothes will receive an unexcused absence for the time missed. Teachers sponsoring or directing an activity may also regulate dress upon approval of the principal.
If the parent or student has questions regarding the appropriateness of an outfit, it should not be worn to school.
