An open letter to Jensen Ackles, by a Queer Teenage Girl:

(tw: mentions of self-harm, suicide, homophobia, etc.) ‘Inspired’ by events at the most recent con.


Mr. Jensen Ackles, you make me uncomfortable. I’m even, at least a little bit, scared of you. You make me uncomfortable because I make you uncomfortable. You make me uncomfortable because who I am, what I am- you don’t like it. And that worries me.

You seem like a nice person. But I’m a queer teenage girl. This means that I am used to being scared of people. I am used to be on edge. I am used to looking for warning signs, no matter how small, that the person I am talking to will stop seeing me as another human.

You give off a lot of warning signs, Mr. Ackles.

You dehumanize me because I am a woman. You have said mysognistic things. You dehumanize me because I am a teenage girl, and people mock teenage girls. My voice does not matter because I am young, and I am female, and I am not your show’s target demographic. You dehumanize me because I am queer, and that is what this letter is about in particular. (The other parts will take part, though, because my queerness is not entirely unrelated to my femaleness, as I am a person, fully formed, and my parts cannot, will not, be dissected.)

And that means I’m scared of you, no matter how nice you are. That means I have to be scared of you. Warning signs are how I, and others like me, stay alive, Mr. Ackles.

It means I will avoid you at cons; it means I will not go to supernatural panels that you are a part of. Because even though you wouldn’t ever physically attack me, you scare me. You scare me because you will dehumanize me. You will put me in situations where you will say things, things that are horrible, and I will be in a room full of people who will agree with you because you’re famous, because they admire you, maybe because they just don’t like queer teenage girls and you’re confirming what they already believe. It doesn’t matter why: they will agree with you regardless. And if I react in those situations- if I cry, because I am a queer teenage girl, and I cry when I am hurt- and others notice, they will be angry with me. They will find my blog and tell me to kill myself. Girls in my school who are fans of you will threaten me. I will be hated, because you, to some extent, hated me. I know this will happen, because it has happened before. It has happened often. In fact, it happens at least once at every con.

If I cannot keep from crying while watching old videos alone in my room, watching a queer teenage girl (like me, another like me, because there are so very many of us, Mr. Ackles) standing in a room surrounded by thousands of people, valiantly trying to tell her hero that “being gay is not unmanly”, trying to help this person she admires learn that what he said is not okay, the way he is thinking is not okay, anger in her voice matching the anger I feel as well, (because being gay is not unmanly, and because being unmanly is not bad), and watching the room turn hostile, watch the actor refuse to listen- how will I keep from crying when it happens in front of me? When it happens to me?

I would cry, Mr. Ackles. I would need to leave the room, so that I could sit outside and curl up in a friend’s arms as she promised me that I was safe, that she wouldn’t let them hurt me, that you hadn’t meant it, that you didn’t know what would likely happen to that teenage girl, the threats she would receive and hatred and anger she would face- anything so that I would feel less betrayed, less fearful, less alienated. Anything to make me feel like I still counted as a person.

I know others who have done far more than cry because of this. People who have no friend to turn to in those moments of betrayal, of fear, people who hate themselves already and you- you have put the knife in their hand. Not intentionally, never intentionally- you seem like a nice man, Mr. Ackles. But that does not change what happens when a young girl reaching for support hears her hero say what translates, so clearly, into hatred for what she is. Some girls cry. Some girls cut. It happens, Mr. Ackles. I will cry, Mr Ackles. But I have long learned to sever others opinions of me, opinions of people like me, from my opinion of myself. Not everyone has. There are others who will do worse.

I have done worse. Queer teenage girls are often betrayed by their heroes, I am afraid. You are not the first person I have looked up to that has given me a knife. You will not be the last. I refuse to take the knife from you, Mr. Ackles, or any other hero who follows. I do not care what you intended. I will not hold you hand so that you understand that the knife is there. I will be blunt, because you do not deserve kindness in this respect.

You are holding a knife, Mr. Ackles.

And we are often told it is wrong for us to cry. I was taught that expressing negative emotions is not something a young lady should do. We have been told not to cry. We have learned the world hates us. We have learned that you, our hero, hates us. You are handing us the knife, Mr. Ackles, even if you do not realize it is there.

I am strong. I will cry. I will not take the knife. Not all girls have learned this strength yet. (there are many who never will.)

You have a lot of power, and you have misused it in the past. You do not intend to- there are not many, I think, who intend to inflict pain on others. That does not change what has happened.

Mr. Ackles, let me tell you a story.

Pretend that you are a queer teenage girl. (I know this is difficult for you. I know you find this ridiculous. Do it anyways, please.) You have spent your entire life looking for media that has you in it.

You look through every movie list, every book review, you watch and you read and you try to find a character like you.

And you don’t. For a very, very long time you don’t.

And when you do, you wish you hadn’t. Because what you find is a hatred for what you are- a limiting of what you can be.

You find tv shows where you die for being the way you are.

You find movies where you’re evil for being the way you are.

You find books where you’re evil, and dead for being the way you are.

You can’t turn on the tv and see yourself. Sometimes, when you’re lucky, you find a tv show where you don’t die; but your character revolves around that one trait, and you suffer for it. It’s a stereotype of you, nearly dead but not, and that’s the best you’ve got. I repeat: the closest thing to you you get to see, is ashamed of being like you. They are a stereotype. They are afterschool specials. This is what you are given. This is what you get to aspire to be: not a hero, not even a person. A poorly written stereotype that lives in fear.

That’s it.

And then, one day, you turn on the tv and you find a character like you.

He’s twenty six years old, he’s a man, he’s a monster-hunter. But he’s you. He’s more you than many of the female teenagers on tv shows have been.



And you watch this show, and finally, finally, you get to see yourself as something other than dead.

You get to see yourself as a monster-hunter. You get to see yourself as a protective sibling. You get to see yourself as the person who saves the world. You get to see yourself as a character with traits and flaws and strengths don’t revolve around your sexuality.

You cry a lot, because of this. In this story you’re a queer teenage girl- you cry a lot, when you’re hurt, and when you’re happy.



You put up with a lot of problems within this show- you even ignore the fact that it appears to hate you for being a woman. You put up with rape jokes, and over-sexualized women limited to being romantic interests, and dead women, so many dead women, (even sexualized murders of women, and isn’t that horrifying), and you put up with racism, and stereotypes, and you even put up with fucking gay joke after gay joke after gay joke. You keep watching, and you might not like a lot of aspects, but you put up with it. Because that’s you, on the screen.Finally.



And you care, a lot, because of this. So you watch videos of conventions, of the actors and writers talking about these characters. Talking about this character, this character who is you.

Except, of course, they aren’t. They aren’t you, and they never will be.

And you learn this, watching the videos. The things you related to were jokes. Throw-away lines. You’ve been played. You don’t count. You never counted.



And you hear the actor who plays this character, this character who was you in so many ways you’d never gotten to experience before, and you learn that you make him uncomfortable.

And it breaks your queer little heart, Mr. Ackles.

Because you are learning all over again that you don’t deserve to exist if you’re not going to die for it.

You are learning what you learned when you were ten, and twelve, and fourteen.

You are sixteen years old and you are being told that what you are does not deserve to be seen. You are learning that you do not deserve to be heard. You do not deserve to exist.

(You learned this message a very, very long time ago, but you had hoped-

it does not matter what you had hoped. You are a queer teenage girl, and you do not deserve to hope. You do not deserve to exist. This is what you have learned. You will cry, and it will not make you weak, because the last time you learned this lesson you did much worse. Your heart will break, but it will not matter, because you do not matter.)



“I know they just think it’s a hot kind of fantasy”, you are told.

Mr. Ackles, you misunderstand us. There are asexual fans who want Dean to be canonically bisexual. There are lesbians who want Dean to be canonically bisexual. I am queer, Mr. Ackles. I am not interested in sex with you, or your colleagues, and I am not interested in you and your colleagues having sex. It’s silly I have to state this so specifically, and I am not often comfortable talking about my sexuality at great length, but let me be clear: I may be interested in all genders, but I prefer women. I greatly prefer women. I have no interest in any men currently, and have had no interest for three years. This is pointless, trivial information- but you are making me share this. You don’t care about what a queer teenage girl’s interests are for dating (Or, at least, I assume you do not), but you’re making me share this anyways, so I can make this message very clear for you: I want Dean Winchester to be bisexual because I want to be able to see a queer character on tv that I identify with. I want Dean to be queer, and yes, I wish Dean and Castiel would end up together (though I know many people who want dean to be bisexual who do not) because I want to have the slow-burn, well-developed love story I have always been denied.

When you look at us, you think we are basing this around lust. Mr Ackles, I do not give a fuck if Dean Winchester and Castiel have sex. I do not care if they kiss. I do not care. I want them to love each other, and I want them to admit it, on screen, so that I never have to hear another fratboy fan tell me that it is all in my head that these characters love each other, because that would be gross and wrong and perverted. So that I will have a love story with characters I identify with. So that I can have a queer romance that isn’t a tragedy. I know you do not control this. But it is your choice to react to the idea of Dean being bisexual with something along the lines of revulsion.

And you cannot pretend that the show does not know we want Dean to be bisexual. There have been eight years of queerbaiting, growing more and more intense over the seasons. Your show profits off us by hinting that this character could be like us. Do not act surprised when we want that hinting to become a fact.

Mr Ackles, do you know how many movies have happy or ambigious endings to lesbian love stories? It may seem like a strange question to ask. I looked it up, two years ago. The page is probably long gone, but I had found it. Let me tell you: There were sixteen. I have seen every last one of these movies. Ambigious, it appears, actually means that ‘it can’t get any worse’. Happy, it appears, means ‘Not dead’. I have seen one truly happy movie that was well done, Mr. Ackles. I do not get to be picky about movies if I want a happy queer couple. I have to put up with shoddy writing, bad acting, plots that revolve around how terrible their lives are. There are exceptions, yes, but very few. I like to enjoy the media I consume. I have had one movie about queer people that is actually enjoyable. One. Even for queer people who enjoy plots I don’t, they have a range of twenty films or so to choose from. How many movies have you seen with a happy heterosexual couple? How many tv shows, books, poems?

I have one, Mr. Ackles. Is it so wrong I want more?

You are uncomfortable with us discussing Dean Winchester’s sexuality. You don’t seem to understand why we bring it up so much.

We bring it up because it matters to us. It matters to us a great deal.

It’s very simple, Mr. Ackles: You live a life surrounded by mirrors. We live surrounded by windows. We do not get to see ourselves. We have trouble defining ourselves. We grow up thinking we are broken, and wrong, and bad, because we have never gotten to see ourselves.

Dean Winchester was our mirror. Dean Winchester was, is, us. We write essays about this. We write pages and pages of analysis explaining why we identify with him, why we see him as queer. We write and we draw and we talk about this. Fans who see Dean as straight- and there are nowhere near as many as you think- don’t need to explain why they think so. It is assumed he is straight. Like everyone else. Many, however, argue anyways. The idea makes them uncomfortable. They turn to you, often enough, to reason why. To tell us, not only will Dean never be bisexual- a lesson we have already learned from your reaction to the very concept, Mr. Ackles- but that even wishing he was like us, pretending he is, is wrong. That we are bad for wanting a single mirror, when that’s meant to be their reflection. We do not deserve to be represented.



Pretend, yet again, that you are a queer teenage girl.



“This isn’t that kind of show”, you are told.

You know that. You have always known that. That’s why you need this so badly.

Because you only exist on certain shows. Shows where you’re bullied, shows where you die. It’s not even you, not really- it’s a poorly written stereotype. The character is written to experience nothing but pain, why would they develop them beyond that? You do not exist, he is saying. You are not a person.



Straight people are on every show. That’s normal. They’re people.

You are not.

Misha panel

First of all. He came out looked amazing. I love him in dark clothes!! I took a bunch of pics that I’ll post when I get more time to go through.

People asked either ship questions, stupid irrelevant questions or not questions at all but dumb ass comments. It was a total fail aside from him having us sing Happy Birthday to a girl on speaker. That was very cute and his idea to do!

And if you are one of these people then don’t bother sending me hate because I really don’t care. My blog, my opinions, not publicly tagged.

Okay so we start out with people not even asking questions. One girl got up and told him she had a photo op with him and didn’t know what to do. Really? You stood in line and wasted everyone’s time for that? Then someone else wanted to tell Misha about her appreciation of angels because she was saved from some accident by a guy on a bike that she considers her angel. No question.

Then stupid questions came like “If I was making brownies and didn’t have eggs would Castiel bring me eggs?” LIKE WHAT? Is that for fucking real?!

Then the girl asked if Misha would say hi to her friend who’s 16th birthday was today and she couldn’t come. So he had her call the girl and we all say happy birthday to her. It was very sweet. About the only part of the Q&A that was good!

Then of course another girl gets up and asks if she can call her friend that couldn’t make it. Of course Misha says yes.

Then THE question. “Do you think Castiel is in love with Dean?”

My reaction. VERY LOUDLY right to the girl from the front row “NO!!! THAT IS NOT OKAY” and the girl looked at me nervously. Several others in the audience were also booing or saying “no” and “come on!” and Misha was looking around, CLEARLY not thrilled with this question. So he asked her what SHE thought and she replies with “I absolutely think Cas in completely 100% in love with Dean. AND ONLY DEAN” and someone yelled “MEG!” from toward the back and Misha smiled and said “Yes, there’s Meg” But then went into this very long tirade about how Yes Dean and Cas have a very profound bond. Yes they love each other. If you read something deeper into that then that is entirely up to you. And he talked about all the hate he got after his last panel where it was questioned if he was even a LGBT supporter and all the ways he has shown in the past that he was. He just went on and on and said something finally about “I’m flailing up here” and then ended with a joke about how they love each other but it’s totally sexual. It was completely uncomfortable for the entire fucking place.

Argue that all you want. I was front fucking row, I could see his face. Continue to fool yourselves all you’d like.

Then someone asked if Jimmy Novak was still in there. FINALLY a good question. He said Yes, he’s inside screaming.

Then someone asked to touch his butt. He was like uhhh and the entire audience groaned. He denied the request.

It ended shortly. I know I’m missing things but this is what stood out to me that I can remember.

So there you go. A fantastic panel. /sarcasm

I know I said I wasn’t posting anything else but this needs said.

I have deleted all references to the “ban” on shipping questions from my blog. I want to take a minute and clear this up once and for all.

There was no official announcement of any kind made about anything to me or around me nor will there be that I am aware of
I was having a very casual conversation with Adam about the issues during the con, including the panel questions and other non related issues inside my VIP group
I never meant to insinuate any information I was given was some new rule or ban
Reading my text back that I typed out to Cici I can see exactly why she made the post she made. This is on me, not her. Please do not send her hate.
Adam DID say after the Misha panel and the fuss at the start of the J2 panel they were going to CONTINUE to monitor/screen questions and disallow those that seemed to continuously cause friction and/or make the actors uncomfortable. He did NOT say shipping. That was MY take on it.
I’m sorry if I was misleading, it was not my intent. I was madly irritated by the events at the Misha panel (as evidence by my posts here) and then the question at the J2 panel. However, being at the con, you are in a little bubble. I had very little idea what was going on here. Once I realized the shit storm caused, I reblogged the post and attempted to add clarification which apparently just made things worse.

Please stop contacting Creation and the SPN cast/crew over this now. I BEG YOU. Send the hate to me, if you must. Nobody’s perfect and I try my ass off to be but often fail. Such is life I suppose.

Now as far as the content of said questions that really has nothing to do with this so I am leaving out my thoughts on that but just wanted to say that when I was going off about that, I didn’t have the facts and again should have just kept my mouth shut. Huge lesson learned for me.

So for starters, if you were not there you can’t know the setup. Usually there is an area behind the stage for the VIP. Not here. So they had to shove 2 very large black curtains up on each side of the stage. On Jared’s side was the sound guy. On Jensen’s side was the VIP area. It was SMALL and VERY cramped and loud. Many of the girls were upset by this. I was not. Here’s why.

There were only 8 of us that showed up. The table barely fit us. You could not walk around it. You had to exit one side of the curtain and walk around and enter the other side. We are knee to knee sitting at this table. It’s loud. The announcers or Adam or whoever was talking and music was playing and we couldn’t really hear.

Now how’s that a good thing.

Must move in very close to talk.

See where I’m going with this?

Okay moving on.

So they bring in Jensen and I’m sitting on the end right beside him. I have my folder with my ops and the DVD sitting on the table in front of me. Since I cannot do a play by play of the events (per Creation) I’m just going to go right to things that were said of importance. He picked up my DVD and we were all talking about Ten Inch Hero and the plot and people’s view of the ending. Then we asked how Danneel was doing and he says “she’s crabby and ready to have this baby” and laughed. Another girl talks to him about a book that everyone made for Danneel and Gen that they gave to Clif and asked Jensen if she got it. Jensen says if it was given to Clif then he’s sure she did. They get many nice things. That made me smile. Someone says that’s nice because we know she gets a lot of hate. ……………. And his face fell a bit. I wanted to cry. He nodded and said “yes she does” and proceeds to talk about the woman stalking them in LA and he said he stopped and went right up to the woman and said “I know who you are. You are not from around here. This is not acceptable. Please leave me and my family alone. Now. “ and said he understood fans want to get close but that was ridiculous. So I said “Jensen that woman is NOT your fan, she is a crazy person” and he literally stopped and put his hand on my forearm and said “no, you’re absolutely right”. And we were all going on and on about how much we actually love Danneel. EVERY VIP WAS TELLING THIS MAN HIS WIFE WAS WONDERFUL. It was awesome. Then he says this “She knows. Of course she knows. We both know. The fans have been great in uniting against the hate. The fans like you guys here. It’s something of wonder to see you all pull together and step in and get people banned and such. But you know it’s like the old saying goes, she can get 10000 messages of love but it’s that one message calling her a slut and a whore that sticks with you”.

And I wanted to stab myself my heart hurt so badly for this man. SLUT AND WHORE. He knows his wife is called this. He’s read the tweets. His face was so sad. And he’s right. It is the hate that’s harder to remove from your mind.

So let me stop for a second and say this. If you are reading this and you are one of these people, first of all FUCK YOU. Second GET OFF MY BLOG. Third, Jensen actually hates you. Just so you know. You’re not his fan you are a giant piece of shit that needs eradicated from existence.

So then we all tried to shake it off . And I then said “Jensen I wanted to ask you a question. I am planning to ask Jared this as well but since you’re soon to be a father, it’s something we should know now” and asked him how he felt about images taken by fans or paparazzi spreading around tumblr/twitter/facebook/ect. I told him that I have in the past reblogged photos of Thomas but that I have been increasingly uncomfortable with doing so and decided a few months ago, I would ask them this in the VIP. He said that as celebs they understood what they signed up for. But his child isn’t a celebrity and he’s really going to try to protect her from that side of his life for as long as possible. And in short, he would like us as fans to NOT reblog, post or help spread in any way photos of his daughter. He said he knows the fans are like a pack of wolves that if you don’t feed them they will come for you and he laughed. He said that he and Danneel will get pics out for us IN THEIR OWN TIME if we are patient and that they just want to enjoy it themselves for a minute or two. To which we all agreed that we would spread this around and attempt to stop any of it that would could.

The VIP ended and he thanked us all and went on his way.

If I remember anything I’ll edit this and reblog but that’s it for now.

If him agreeing with this post isn’t conformation enough for you to know that this is me, you’ll just have to live in your doubt. I’ve decided not to let any of my friends (very good friends) get pulled into this just because you don’t want to believe that the girl was me.

First of all, he’s not upset. Clearly, I’m not upset. So if we could all please stop sending hate and threats, I’m sure at least one of us would be happy.

I’ve gotten a lot of multiple questions that are very valid so let me just answer a few:

I didn’t ask Jared about this because there has been no recent subtext to Sam’s sexuality. There’s never really been any situations like that for Sam (and if there were, like with the male crossroads!demons) he didn’t bat an eye to them unlike Dean who has usually made sure to state ‘he doesn’t swing that way’ until more recently.
I started with saying ‘I admire Dean becoming more comfortable with himself’ which is in every way. How long has it been since Dean hasn’t fallen asleep fully dressed? When in past seasons has he just up and cooked some burgers? With Lisa. And as much as he was trying, he never looked completely comfortable (most likely due to the fact that anyone could get to them, unlike the MoL bunker which is quite safe)
I stated I was bisexual, not to say ‘lololol only gay people can tell who gay ppl r’ but to emphasize that I’ve been through a similar journey of self discovery and it looked kind of like what Dean might be going through (complete denial to eh, why do I need to say I don’t like women?)
I never ever went into this wanting Jensen to “confirm” that “Dean is bisexual”. As I’ve said, a friend drafted this question and I’ve been rewording it a little and my end goal was to hear Jensen talk in depth about Dean. I love when actors are so connected to their characters after spending so many years on them and Jensen in particular is very passionate about Dean. As a controversial subject, I thought he might want the opportunity to give us his two cents on the matter in a respectful way in a smaller setting (njcon is the smallest con I’ve attended). I wasn’t fishing for a fight from anyone. I wasn’t looking to “CONFIRM THE DESTIEL”. I didn’t have any sort of shipping agenda. I’ll ship what I want to ship, no matter what. I didn’t know that the question from Misha’s panel would create such an uproar at Jared and Jensen’s panel the next day.
I hadn’t (and still haven’t) heard anything about the banning of sexuality/shipping questions. I personally would like to not have the subject of sexuality as taboo of a subject as it is, especially in a setting where a lot of the audience is LBTQ or a supporter. As I was asking a question about the character I didn’t deem it inappropriate. A lot of people have stated that it was very inappropriate, and I’m sorry if I offended you. I would never ever ask a question about sexuality in a setting I thought would make the actors extremely uncomfortable. No offense to anyone, but Jensen is in his 30’s. He’s been around for a while and while I understand now how stating my own sexuality may have made people uncomfortable, I was asking about Dean’s development relating to sexuality. I want to treat Jensen like an adult. I feel like a lot of this “Family” treats him very carefully. Just compare a panel with Misha as opposed to Jensen. I know Misha really does put himself more out there, but I still believe we should treat the actors as what they are, grown men who have the full right to deny a question if they so desire (a right I feel has been taken away from Misha because he will answer even the most degrading questions). Jensen has the full right to deny any question he doesn’t want to answer. Something he’s done in the past. So it wasn’t your right as a crowd (and even online) to put the blame on me and cut me off. Clif had to step in after the crowd got loud. We really don’t know what Jensen would have said, and we never will.
Yes, I do have another tumblr. I’ve had it for a while now.
No, I will not give any of you the url. I know that there’s a lot of you that want to follow for good reasons, but I didn’t ask this for attention and I sure as hell don’t want to lead anyone to my blog which leads to all my friends blogs. Again, if you figure out who I am, please keep it to yourself. And that isn’t a challenge.
Again, I’ve loved this cast a lot for a very long time. I hate seeing them get hate. You’re completely entitled to your opinion, but you do not have the right to send legitimate hate to people.

Direct from the “Mystery Girl”

Hello! After a lot of driving (a friend reading me posts from the njcon tag and me being appalled by a lot of those posts) I’m making this blog to try and stem the wank a little.

I know this is asking a lot but if you could all please stop posting about this in the “njcon” tag that would be great. Please, please start using the tag “njwank” so that people who would like to hear about this really wonderful con could actually look at the njcon tag.

Now, about the actual question. This is the question I was going to ask:

I’ve loved seeing Dean’s character become more comfortable with himself this season. As a bisexual, I’ve noticed some possible subtext, as seen in Everybody Hates Hitler, that Dean might be coming to accept himself as something other than straight too? I know you’ve said you know Dean better than anyone, so, in your professional opinion, as the preeminent scholar on Dean Winchester, if you see that as a valid interpretation of what’s going on with the character this season.

That’s the question. The whole question. Questions were screened. The woman screening the questions listened to me say that my question is relating to Dean’s development in the show and how he may have changed from s1 to now and then showed that I even had the question written down on my phone. The woman nodded and asked if that was the only thing I’d be asking as I am allowed one question. She then just went through the typical “Don’t ask for hugs, no personal stories, no asking for phone calls, etc.” Please note that nothing was said about anyone asking for questions about sexuality or shipping being banned.

Now here is what happened when I attempted to ask this question. I got as far as the word “bisexual” before the crowd groaned. I proceeded to hold my hand up in a ‘please just wait a second and let me finish’ way and then got as far as the word subtext before the crowd was full on booing and starting to shout a couple things I couldn’t make out. This is when Clif stepped out from behind the curtain looking very intimidating. He said, “Are you really going to ask this question?” to which I responded, “No, I have the question right here on my phone” and I held it up to him for him to read it but he was just like, “Just explain it to me”.
I then stood on my tiptoes to talk directly in his ear because the crowd was still too loud. I kind of stumbled through the explanation of the question as it’s a complex question. I just stepped down after that and Clif just said, “Don’t ask that. Please just thank them and go.”
He did not say this in an angry way. It is Clif’s job to keep things around Jared and Jensen calm and the way the crowd was was not calm at all. This question was just a little too much for the first question and people’s reactions were very, very negative so obviously I wouldn’t be asking the question. I looked up at Clif and told him that I meant no disrespect and to please tell Jared and Jensen that, then immediately grabbed the microphone and said, “I did not mean to be disrespectful at all. Thank you so much.” and then stepped back so that the girl behind me could move to the mic.
Jensen looked confused and said, “I still don’t know what the question was. I’m going to pretend I don’t know what the question was.”
I spoke up at that and quietly sort of yelled towards Jensen that Clif would tell him later. When it was obvious that I wasn’t going to ask my question, he stated that that was his queue to move on and he then took the next question.

I continued to stand there with the next girl in line since she was nervous, not only because she was about to ask a question but also because she was surprised by Clif when he appeared practically out of nowhere to stop me. At this point, the woman who screened my question and Adam (works with Creation) came up looking confused and asked if I got to ask my question to which I replied, “No, I’m just waiting for her to ask her question.” to which they asked the girl to step up to the microphone.

That’s what happened on my end. Here’s how I feel about it.

Jensen wasn’t talking to me when he said anything during this one minute video. I was engaged in trying to explain my question to Clif. Jensen was turned to the crowd, keeping them entertained while this was happening. I didn’t know what he was saying until I got to watch this video after the fact.

I am not upset by Jensen trying to keep the crowd engaged
I am not upset at Clif for trying to keep the crowd calm
I am not upset at Jared for encouraging me to keep going

What I am is annoyed that as soon as I stated that I am bisexual, people groaned. Maybe that’s not something you think is okay. Maybe I could have asked this question in a better fashion. The point is, you should never boo or groan at someone when they state their sexuality. I don’t care if you thought I was going to ask a shipping question. I don’t care what you think about me as a person. The end goal for this question was Jensen going in depth about his characterization of Dean.

The answer to this question didn’t really matter to me personally, I’m going to ship what I’m going to ship no matter what the canon sexuality of a character is. But I know it does matter to a lot of people and that is why I decided on asking this. A friend has been thinking about this question for quite a while and we have been hashing it out since before VegasCon. We were originally going to ask it there, but were too far back in line.
This was a question going to be asked for a very long time now, and so of course I was going to grab the opportunity to ask it. I didn’t think twice of what happened at Misha’s panel as I hadn’t really been online to witness the wank and the atmosphere at the con was very happy.
Having been to many cons (7th con, 5th SPN con), the atmosphere here was very good and I didn’t really take the wank seriously.

Now, it took me a couple hours before I went and talked to Clif (I’ve never been scared of talking to someone ever, but wow Clif is intimidating when he needs to be), right after I nervously said hello, I didn’t get another word out before Clif asked me “How are you?”
After this, I relaxed a bit and apologized for having put him in that position. I really didn’t mean too and didn’t expect that reaction. Clif smiled and just suggested to keep it lighthearted next time (next time) for the first question. He gave me a hug and I asked him to state again to Jared and Jensen that I meant no disrespect and he smiled and said he would.

Overall, what I’m most disappointed about is the fandom’s inability to look past this one incident to really appreciate how wonderful this con was.
